Bay Fishing & Offshore Fishing

Port O’Connor offers rapid deepwater access to deepwater offshore fishing through the Port and bay fishing in the surrounding bay fishing areas such as Espiritu Santo Bay, Matagorda Bay, Port Lavaca and Palacios. It also offers rapid access to many shallow water kayak fishing trails and wading areas as well as fishing camps on the Matagorda Peninsula and popular beach hangouts like Sunday Beach. Port O’Connor houses two of the largest offshore and inshore fishing tournaments located anywhere on the Gulf Coast.

Birdwatching & Duck Hunting

Port O'Connor is home to some of the best duck hunting and birdwatching found anywhere in the state of Texas because it lies along a major migration route. Port O’Connor is also near the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) which includes world class birding and nature viewing. Whooping cranes are the Refuge’s most famous migrants, arriving in late October and leaving mid-April. Each spring and fall millions of waterfowl, shorebirds and songbirds pass through the area. Spring and fall are the premier times for bird migration.
